Socialization to basic financial literacy at a young age is proven critical to future understanding of economic concepts and basic personal finance. Numerous studies have shown an array of childhood variables that contribute to economic decision-making in adulthood. Specifically, the bridge between financial socialization, through exposure to economic concepts in day-to-day life, and financial literacy, through direct education on financial concepts.

In an attempt to reduce the burden on primary and secondary education to incorporate personal finance classes into curricula, the Pocket Change boardgame will serve as an additional early intervention that targets girls aged 5-12 and uses gamified education techniques to socialize girls to become more financially literate.
